Before Storage
Essential preparation steps
Drain All Fuel
Empty the fuel tank completely and run engine until it stops to clear the carburetor
Why: Old fuel degrades and causes starting problems in spring
Change Oil & Filter
Replace engine oil and filter while warm for better drainage
Why: Used oil contains contaminants that can damage internal components
Clean Thoroughly
Remove all grass clippings, dirt, and debris from deck, engine, and chassis
Why: Trapped moisture causes rust and corrosion during storage
Inspect for Damage
Check belts, cables, blades, and tires for wear or damage
Why: Easier to order parts now than scramble in spring
Disconnect Battery
Remove battery and store in warm, dry place on trickle charger
Why: Prevents discharge and freezing damage
Protect Cylinder
Remove spark plug, spray fogging oil into cylinder, pull cord a few times
Why: Prevents internal rust and ensures easier spring starting
