Flooded Engine? Here's How to Fix It

The most common 2-stroke starting problem

Signs You've Flooded It

  • Strong smell of petrol/fuel
  • Wet or fuel-soaked spark plug
  • No attempt to fire after multiple pulls
  • Sometimes a 'squelchy' sound when pulling
  • Fuel dripping from muffler or carburetor

How to Clear It

  1. 1Turn choke OFF completely
  2. 2Hold throttle fully OPEN
  3. 3Remove spark plug and dry it thoroughly
  4. 4Pull starter cord several times with plug OUT to vent excess fuel
  5. 5Reinstall dry plug
  6. 6Try starting with NO choke and throttle open

💡 Pro Tips to Avoid Flooding

  • If it coughs, turn the choke off immediately
  • Pull it sharp, not soft - like snapping a whip
  • Don't keep pulling 10+ times - that's how you flood it
  • Think of it like a car with a flat battery - if it doesn't spin fast enough, it won't start
