Flooded Engine? Here's How to Fix It
The most common 2-stroke starting problem
Signs You've Flooded It
- •Strong smell of petrol/fuel
- •Wet or fuel-soaked spark plug
- •No attempt to fire after multiple pulls
- •Sometimes a 'squelchy' sound when pulling
- •Fuel dripping from muffler or carburetor
How to Clear It
- 1Turn choke OFF completely
- 2Hold throttle fully OPEN
- 3Remove spark plug and dry it thoroughly
- 4Pull starter cord several times with plug OUT to vent excess fuel
- 5Reinstall dry plug
- 6Try starting with NO choke and throttle open
💡 Pro Tips to Avoid Flooding
- ✓If it coughs, turn the choke off immediately
- ✓Pull it sharp, not soft - like snapping a whip
- ✓Don't keep pulling 10+ times - that's how you flood it
- ✓Think of it like a car with a flat battery - if it doesn't spin fast enough, it won't start
